A Tragic Loss in Africa’s Higher Education Sector

Kampala June 28^th 2022 – The RUFORUM Network on a sad note has lost one of her greatest female Vice Chancellors, Prof Christine Dranzoa, Vice Chancellor for Muni University and a fervent advocate of the girl child education. The late professor, rose from a humble background in a small village of Adua, in Moyo district and has been spearheading the University since its inception in 2014. At the time of her death, Prof Dranzoa, 59, was also serving as the Executive Committee chairperson of Inter University Council of East Africa (IUCEA).

Prof. Dranzoa began lecturing at the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Makerere University in 1991 and she was entrusted to head the Wildlife and Animal Resource Management unit and oversee its development. By the time she left the portfolio in 2005 to take on administrative roles, the faculty had transformed into the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security. She became the Deputy Director of the Makerere University School of Graduate Studies until 2010 when the government appointed her the Chairperson of the Muni University Taskforce and the de facto Vice Chancellor.
