Research collaboration is pivotal to addressing complex challenges in the agriculture sector which is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Meeting the increasing global food demand while mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions poses a daunting task. Join Qinisa – a regional initiative aimed at strengthening the cooperation and coordination of agricultural GHG research activities across Southern Africa. Through networking and aligning of national and regional research programmes, Qinisa aims to chart a course towards sustainable agricultural practices.

The imperative for advancing low-emission, climate-resilient food systems in Southern Africa cannot be overstated. While numerous academic and developmental organizations in the region are actively engaged in various initiatives, there remains a critical gap – the absence of dedicated coordination mechanisms for the joint provision and alignment of outputs and outcomes to optimize resources and impact. Qinisa bridges this gap by linking the efforts of multiple stakeholders, fostering accelerated progress towards sustainable solutions for enhancing agricultural productivity while mitigating climate change.
The Qinisa project aims to provide a platform for research funders, scientists, industry and policymakers to collaborate effectively. By facilitating cooperation, identifying challenges, and pinpointing investment opportunities, Qinisa aims to steer research, investment, and policy direction towards sustainable agricultural practices. Initial focus areas include collaborative leadership, research and investment alignment, capacity strengthening, and profile raising – all geared towards achieving tangible outcomes.
The Qinisa Introductory Webinar marks a significant milestone in refining the project’s concept. It offers stakeholders a platform to deliberate on pathways for enhancing connectivity among diverse research initiatives and stakeholders engaged in agricultural GHG research.
