On 7th March 2023, Dr. Onkgolotse G. Moatshe-Mashiqa (PhD), a collaborator in the BUAN RUFORUM CARP safflower project titled ‘Enhancing Safflower Production and Product Development for Food Security and Improving Income of Small-Scale Farmers in Botswana’, was awarded the National Research Excellence Award in Agriculture in Botswana. The safflower research project titled ‘Introduction of Safflower Cultivation as a Cash Crop for Botswana’ earned her the prestigious recognition. This was the first-ever National Research Excellence Awards held in Botswana, under the theme “Research – A Precious Treasure of Botswana”, hosted by the Ministry of Communications, Knowledge, and Technology. Dr. Moatshe-Mashiqa’s accomplishment highlights the importance of promoting research excellence to advance
agricultural production and food security in Botswana.
