Malawi President Peter Mutharika has now been crowned as the Champion for Higher Education in Africa by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM).
RUFORUM handed over the crown to Mutharika on Sunday.
In his acceptance, Mutharika said he is committed to make sure that schools are offering comprehensive science education which may lead to the growth of their countries economy.
The Malawi leader, while admitting that higher education remains a challenge in the continent assured RUFORUM of his commitment to strive for access to higher education availability to Africans.
” I have accepted this rare honor for the benefit of Malawi and Africa in general since higher education is a key for any Africa country which wants to prosper. I have also accepted the honor bearing in mind that education is vital for social economic development.” Mutharika posted on his official Facebook account.
Initially, RUFORUM said that the appointment of Mutharika was in recognition to His creation of a Continental Agenda to revitalize Higher Education in Africa so that the Continent has the required quality human resource and Institutions to support the Continent’s development agenda.
